M.S.C ZoNE:-
All the readers at the Chester Amiga Club have a message
for Mark M.S.C, we think that he calls Molgrat a queer
all the time due to the fact that Mark himself is in fact
a queer as well. Thanks.
from: Martin of Chester Amiga computer club.
Thanx To DiskBox P.D. Widnes (And our mate Ken) for including A.F
in their library.
Mark M.S.C says:
AANNNYYYWWAAAAYYY, Its nice to be back after so much publicity
(see above, that's a REAL comment, not just one that we made up.......
.....honestly!) (you said it Mark!-Ed) #7More>>>
@5
No, really, we managed to make it into quite a few PD
companies including V12 (Hi Stevie baby!.....and you as well Mike),
Diskbox PD and The little shop in a little town called Wallasey.
(On-line Pd to the clever people who bought it from there (Ta very much)
POINTS OF VIEW BIT
Now I know that this doesn't really have much to do with the article
(But that's the name of the article Mark - M.S.C) Oh aye! thanx for that
Mark (It's alright Mark - M.S.C.) Ermmmmm.......yes....rather.
To begin my fire and brimstone wrath of hell article this issue, I
thought I'd mention just one small point to all of our readers. #7More>>>

The A1200 has 2Meg of memory as standard right? Now that's not really very
good at all compared to the Super Deluxe Turbo'ed P.C. 5000000000+ type
thing.
Admittedly, that PC would indeed cost a lot more money, but for the
average Joe Public that wouldn't really matter to them. They just want to
play Doom and Descent and other such graphic intensive games. All
Escom need to do is add an extra 2 Meg as standard to the A1200. It
needn't cost more than the price of a 2Meg SIMM (about £69.99) and
could actually be as low as an extra £50 (but don't quote me on that...
....in fact, don't quote me on anything). Now, with that extra 2Meg
games programmers could do a hell of a lot, and I mean a LOT ! Add a
CD-ROM to that basic set-up and you would have a great games #7More>>>

machine and multimedia computer.
All that for just an extra 50 to 70 quid.
I'm sure not too many people would argue with that, and you could
even make it an optional option (or something), although that would
probably defeat the object somewhat. Most people would buy the cheaper
2Meg version rather than the (slightly) more expensive 4Meg version.
Even with that extra memory as standard, we still wouldn't see games
such as Wing Commander 5 and things like that, because you would probably
need an accelerator for those sorts of games. Although you could get
SimCity 2000 to run on it because you only need MEMORY to run that sort
of stuff.
BUT!!!!!!!!!! The main problems would be a) trying to get Escom #7More>>>
@5to do that
and
b) Trying to get people to buy the 4Meg version
and
c) Getting past the hardware problems to get the memory on
to the motherboard. Although Commodore managed it with
the Best Designed Amiga ever, the A3000.
The next piece of information in this article (for me) is about a
special investigation done by CU AMiga. They've put together a two page
story about a company called Silent Paw Products. The article was all
about some Amiga Portables called PAWS (Portable Amiga Workstations).
These are basically A600's, A1200's, A3000's/A4000's taken out of
their cases and placed in a (slightly) smaller box, connected to #7More>>>
@5
a LCD (DUDEZ) screen. The main problem with this LCD screen however, is
that it makes up 75% of the cost, about £1800. This is a bit more than
the PC owners pay for theirs, but Silent Paw Products have done a bit
of rewiring and stuff. The actual Amiga and case and software, actually
makes up about £600 of the total cost. The actual mid-point price for the
product is approx $3,500. (Quite an extended sum, into PC Zone here
me thinks).
I don't really think that people would pay that much for a portable
(although if anyone wants to lend me the money to beta test one, I
wouldn't argue), but some people who found it necessary to use one, would
probably buy one or two, or five thousand if they wanted to.
The fella in charge of this company has gone on record to say #7More>>>
@5
that he is quite prepared to become Amiga Technologies portable
distributor ('cause he's a bit small you see). I think that this would be
a great idea as then they could license the Amiga chips and produce a
portable version of the motherboard, as well as adding a 68060 to reduce
power costs. This would be a great boost to the Amiga scene and I would
buy one or two of them if I won the lottery. (so there)
(((brackets forever)))
All the above is a lie. (Probably).
@3Converse Zone :-)
For those of you wondering about the beginning of M.S.Cs comment #7More>>>
@3
above: The reason why Mark said the comment above was real (the letter
from Chester computer club stating that Mark was queer)
was because I decided to swap the original comment (from an AF fan)
over to that one. The beauty of it is, I haven't told Mark that I
replaced it, so he'll find out um' ... around about the same time you
will.
Right, I'm going to waffle on about something now, err, oh I know....
Upgrading, here's my little theory of why a significant proportion of
Amiga owners won't upgrade.
The thing is, Amiga owners ARE upgrading, at least a large amount of them
are, BUT those people are able to upgrade because a majority
of them only obtain pirated software. Therefore the money that #7More>>>
@3would have been spent on software is instead being spent on hardware.
Because these owners don't buy software for their upgraded machines
the only people left who do buy software is the poor Amiga owner who
spends his/her hard earned dosh on software.
I was recently looking through an old magazine which talked about
developing cartridge games for the Amiga. This led me to use my
brain for a change and think why didn't they become available, the
games companies themselves said that the games wouldn't be too expensive
and the technology and ability to place Amiga games on to cartridge
was easily available. But, alas most major companies have gone
and there really isn't any company committed, large enough, willing
and/or able to carry out such an idea, but think about it: #7More>>>
@3
Cartridges are extremely hard to copy.
They are quite cheap
They're VERY fast
They eliminate the need for disk swaps
And I thought of it.
What more can I say.
Obviously this won't happen and as usual I'm talking bull shit, but
I really don't see why this didn't take off three years ago.
Oh, by the way... remember my national piracy free week December the
1st-8th? Well, did anyone actually buy a game instead of copying?
I doubt it, but maybe sometime on a large scale if even 70% of Amiga
owners bought 1 game in a particular week, then sales would EASILY
PISS on the P.Cs, but this will never happen and so many people out there
sit happily playing copied games on their decent set up paid for #7More>>>
@3
from the vast amounts of money saved, one little niggler though for those
people:
What happens when you've got an amazing dream Amiga set up and you
find no new software to run on it?
Laugh now, but it will happen and very soon.... The Amiga is dying
and it is dying very quickly, it has now got to the point where
most distributors don't even bother distributing Amiga games.
The only thing keeping the Amiga alive now is P.D, forget this crap
about the 1200 being back, I mean fair enough they're selling reasonably
well, but the people buying these machines buy them because they
know they won't have to pay for games, they're not soft.
The only other way out of this problem is for A.T to sell so many #7More>>>
@3
Amigas that even a small percentage of Amiga owners buying games
would be large enough to keep things going well.
So to all pirates out there try buying a game, you'll be amazed to see
how cheap they are, I recently went to a shop and they were selling
at around £10 or less, now you can't tell me that £10 is overpriced!
Come on guys and guyess's the old 'too expensive' excuse is long gone.
Anyway, it's your choice and I would bet 100 pounds that not 1 person
who reads this who normally pirates games will actually go out and buy
one.
Just think you'll be forced to buy an expensive P.C soon and that is
enough punishment (i.e they're crap, expensive).
Well that's my last moan about piracy, because it'll never go #7More>>>
@3
away. Thanks to the dedicated Amiga users.
My apologies go out to anyone who actually buys games or even
just a few.
Arse.
